The Shimano Tranx 500 is a massive low-profile baitcasting reel that blurs the lines between conventional and casting. It offers all the line capacity and torque of a conventional reel, but does so while still using a low-profile casting reel frame that is much more ergonomic and manageable than a round reel.

For unflinching power, it combines Shimano’s X-Ship and HEG technologies with a Cross Carbon Star Drag that offers a maximum of 25 pounds of drag strength – more than enough to muscle right through hard-fighting gamefish. Additionally, it offers modern conveniences like a level wind and free-spool capabilities.
