The Daiwa Coastal TWS 150 is a baitcaster reel designed for light tackle, inshore saltwater anglers. Crafted with Gulf Coast redfish and speckled trout anglers in mind, who often target these inshore species with popping cork rigs and other small soft plastic rigs, this reel was purpose-built for light inshore saltwater fishing. Nonetheless, despite its Gulf Coast focus, the reel’s many features allow it to easily crossover into a wide range of inshore saltwater applications on any coast.

One the first things you’ll notice upon picking up this reel is that it is incredibly small and compact, making it extremely “palmable.” Yet despite its space-efficient, ergonomic design, Daiwa’s engineers managed to woo us once again by expertly packing a deeper 150 size spool in a 100 size aluminum reel frame. The SV Spool is strong and capable of tolerating the increased pressures of braided line, which is a must in vegetation-heavy inshore environments. The T-Wing System allows the line to pass freely, without friction, through the level wind’s eye, on a long cast, significantly improving casting distance. The innovative Zaion Star Drag is made from a “high density” carbon strain material that is 20 percent stronger and 50 percent lighter than traditional nylon and aluminum. To top it all off 100mm swept paddle handle makes hard cranking comfortable and natural.
